The BMW 335i is known to many BMW enthusiasts as a tuner car and highly sought after for its turbocharged engine. Many DIY parts and accessories can be added to make the car perform at a very high level.
The BMW 3 series, built from 1975 until the current day, on six platform generations in 5 different body styles and with 7 different models depending on powertrain has made up between 30 and 40 % of total BMW vehicle sales (excluding motorcycles). In its many configurations, from the compact hatchback to the formidable M3, there is a 3 series BMW for everybody. BMW defined the sports compact category by offering a refined, poised, powerful vehicle with crisp handling and economy. While other manufacturers aspire to greatness, BMW achieves it in its Ultimate Driving Machine.
By 2007, drivers were accustomed to power and sportiness in the BMW line, but the 335i was quickly designated as the ‘Big Dog' for the regular production models. The top performing street model for the fifth generation E90 platform (not including the 400 hp V8 M3), this almost subtle rocket ship was propelled by a 3 liter twin turbocharged 24 valve DOHC 302 hp straight six engine called N54, which was bumped up to 322 hp engine in 2010 called N55.BMW began giving separate chassis designations for the coupe as E92, Sedan as E90, Convertible as E93 and sport wagon as E91. The BMW 335i was available in most configurations.
The 335i comes with a choice of a 6 speed manual transmission or the 6 speed automatic Steptronic transmission, and can be rear or an all-wheel drive car, the later using the BMW xDrive system. The 335i was carried over onto the more recent 6th generation F30 platform, with subtle performance improvements, although the powerplant remained the same. An 8 speed Steptronic automatic is offered.
