eEuroparts.com has been following the SAAB saga ever since the company filed for bankruptcy in December of 2011. The whole story has been quite confusing, so we thought we would lay out what the recent acquisition of SAAB means for you, your SAAB parts, and the future of SAAB in general.
Bankruptcy
SAAB officially filed for bankruptcy on December 19th, 2011, but SAAB had already stopped paying certain manufacturers months before, halting production on numerous genuine parts.
New Ownership
On June 13th, 2012, SAAB Automobile AB (and its subsidiaries SAAB Automobile Powertrain AB and SAAB Automobile Tools AB, as well as the SAAB factory in Trollhättan) was purchased by the Chinese-Japanese consortium National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS). SAAB Automobile Parts AB was not included in in the deal and was taken over by the Swedish National Debt Office, the Swedish government’s central financial manager. Basically, SAAB Automobile Parts AB is owned by the Swedish government.
Genuine SAAB Parts
We just received a big back order shipment last week, so most outstanding SAAB part orders have already been filled and we have more inventory in our warehouse. We’ve also been assured by our suppliers that domestic stock levels will start to return to normal over the next six to eight weeks. We expect product levels to return to 2009-2010 levels temporarily until the new ownership decides which parts they are going to manufacture long term and how they are going to price them.
This also means that the new company is going to be dedicated to supporting the dealer franchisee network and on-lease and newly off-leased vehicles. We anticipate that parts production for older vehicles will become harder to obtain and prices will likely increase, even direct from SAAB.
eEuroparts.com & SAAB
We are committed to carrying SAAB parts and remain dedicated to serving you, our loyal SAAB customers. Due to the continued uncertainty surrounding genuine SAAB, our efforts are focused on putting quality aftermarket replacement parts on the shelf to replace items that we’ve historically carried in genuine. We’re working diligently with our OEM suppliers to build out our replacement parts inventory so you can continue to repair your SAAB with the best parts on the market.
